Positive Mindset To-Do’s:
Affirmations & Mantras:
Start each day with a positive affirmation to boost your confidence and cultivate a positive mindset. Phrases like:
- “I am confident, capable, and deserving of success.”
- “My hard work is preparing me to show up as my best.”
- “I am in control of how I think, act, and feel.”
- “I am strong in my values and confident in my abilities.”
- “Each day, I am moving toward my goals, and understanding more about myself.”
Affirmations and Mantras can help rewire our brains. They can amplify our feel good hormones and reduce stress levels.
On the good days, these phrases can give a boost of motivation to affirm your dreams, goals, and desires both long and short-term. On the bad days, these phrases can helps you accept any frustrations or emotions that may arise.

Visualization Techniques:
Not only does visualization help enhance motivation and increase focus, but mentally we become more driven to make what we see, our reality.
Visualize yourself succeeding in various aspects of the pageant. Everything from interviews, to on stage questions, to the final crowning. Things like:
- Imagine the stage, the audience, and the feeling of accomplishment.
- See yourself in your evening gown, gracefully moving across the stage.
- Visualize yourself performing your talent with confidence and ease.
- Let yourself feel the applause from the audience.
Visualization essentially helps you “practice” success. When you imagine every step of your pageant or event going smoothly, you prepare your mind and body to take those steps in real life.

Goal Setting to Reinforce a Positive Mindset:
Set realistic and achievable goals for yourself, both short-term and long-term. Preparing for a pageant is a huge undertaking. It involves commitment of time, energy, and other resources (not to mention money). So how do you avoid mental overwhelm?
Try this mindset hack: start by setting goals for smaller, easier tasks. Accomplish these easier tasks first to provide a boost of momentum. Then use this to help you create a positive chain reaction, so more success follows. Think of it like a snowball rolling down hill, with each thing you accomplish.
Mentally, as you’re checking things off your list, you’re building a more positive, confidence mindset. The momentum created by action, helps you tackle more challenging goals along your journey.

Make goal setting work for you:
Pick one area to start improving today. Break it down into small achievable chunks. Every time you achieve a small victory, celebrate it. Recognize that your hard work is paying off.
As you move through your to-do’s don’t forget to reflect on what you’ve accomplished. This can reinforce your winning mindset and help you realize all the progress you’re making. It will help keep you going, even as things get more challenging.
Some examples of smaller goals:
- I will practice my introduction in the mirror.
- When you feel confident with that, the next task could be to practice without your notes.
- And then, practice your introduction in front of family or friends.
Another example:
- I will go for one 30 minute walk today.
- When you’re consistent with that, then maybe add, drinking one additional glass of water each day.
- As those become staples in your routine, consider things like, I will add in an extra serving of vegetables at dinner, or if you love the gym, add in one strength training workout.
It’s all about stringing together your goals in a small, achievable progression. Let one small task naturally lead to another, slightly more challenging task. And before you know it, you’ll be tackling the harder things as you prepare.

Mindfulness and Meditation:
Staying present and in the moment will help you maintain a positive mindset. Meditation techniques can help you stay calm. It’s all about letting go of worry or stressful thoughts.
Knowing that nothing is permanent, either good or bad can be an anchoring thought as you meditate. The reminder that the hard times won’t last forever can help you maintain a positive mindset.
If you spend even a few minutes a day feeling relaxed and at peace, your mind will automatically shift into a more positive place.
Try it for yourself:
- Find a quiet place where you can sit and be undisturbed for a few minutes.
- Close your eyes, take some deep breaths, and tune in to any thoughts and feelings you are experiencing.
- The key is to do this in a nonjudgmental way. So allow whatever comes up to just be, no judgement. Acknowledge the thought or emotion that comes up, but tell yourself, you are not dealing with it right now. And let it just float away.
- Continue deep breathing and allowing thoughts to come and go. Try to do this for at least 5 minutes.
- This will help calm down your ‘fight or flight’ nervous system. It also helps decrease emotional reactivity, stress, and anxiety.
- It can strengthen areas of your brain responsible for memory, learning, attention and self-awareness. All of which contributes to a positive mindset.

The resilience, confidence, and poise required on the national stage are cultivated in the mind as as much as they are in the gym.
