This post offers insights on why self-care is not just a luxury, but a necessity. It will guide you through various realms of rejuvenation and resilience. Empowering you to craft your own personalized self-care routine.

We’ll navigate the practical steps to kickstart your own self-care routine, so you not only dazzle on stage but also to nurture the queen within.

Self-Care Strategies

Adequate Sleep:

Ensure you get enough quality sleep each night. Aim for 7-9 hours if possible. Sleep is important to support physical and mental well-being, especially during intense preparation phases.

Sleep is when our body recharges and repairs itself. And for all those hours you spend in the gym or practicing your talent, your body needs time to rest and repair so you are ready to go again.

Throughout the night, your heart rate, breathing rate and blood pressure rise and fall, a process that is important for cardiovascular health. Your body also releases hormones during sleep that help repair cells and control the body’s use of energy.

Sleeping also helps repair and restore our brains, not just our bodies. During sleep we process information, consolidate memories, and undergo a number of maintenance processes. All of which help us function optimally during our waking hours.

Getting enough sleep isn’t only about total hours of sleep. It’s also important to get good-quality sleep on a regular basis so you feel rested when you wake up. An easy way to ensure the sleep you get is high quality, follow the 10-3-2-1-0 Sleep Rule.

This isn’t really a rule – it’s more of a routine. It helps regulate when you should stop doing certain activities before your normal bedtime to ensure proper rest.

  • 10 hours before bed, no more caffeine
  • 3 hours before bed, no more food or drinks
  • 2 hours before bed, no more school work or other work,
  • 1 hour before bed, avoid screen-time
  • 0, the number of times you can hit the snooze button. So when the alarm goes off , get up.

Self Care is Choosing Healthy Nutrition:

Fuel your body with nutritious foods that support overall well-being. Ensuring you consume enough of the main macronutrients as well as antioxidants through fruits and vegetables, will allow you to glow from the inside.

Aim to consume healthy, organic, plant-based meals. A diet heavy in plants and vegetables is designed to brighten skin, decrease bloat, and stabilize blood sugar.

Start by aiming to get a minimum of 4 cups of greens into your body. If you choose to eat meat, try to choose hormone-free, organic lean meats, and wild-caught fish.

And if you need a snack throughout the day, choose foods to support your energy levels such as a low-glycemic piece of fruit, handful of nuts and seeds, or hummus with veggies.

Eating a whole food, mostly plant-based diet is one of the best things you can do for your body. Be sure to include a variety of fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, and whole grains. And tune into your body’s signals for hunger and satiety (fullness). Remember that the time between meals allows your body to digest your food and assimilate all those healthy nutrients.

Rejuvenating Activities for Self Care:

Engage in activities that bring joy and relaxation, such as reading, listening to music, or spending time in nature.

Schedule regular “me time” to do the activities you love and schedule it on the calendar Treat it like any other important meeting or appointment, and don’t miss it.

This protected time helps our busy brains unwind and reset. It also helps decrease stress, and gives us more control over our moods.

When our stress levels are lowered, our patience is increased and we are more able to live in the moment. Additionally, when it’s time to unwind at night, your body is less stressed, your mind is more calm, and you are able to fall asleep much faster.

Self Care Means Setting Boundaries:

Establish clear boundaries to prevent burnout and ensure a healthy life-pageant prep balance. Designate specific times for pageant-related activities and protected time for relaxation and downtime.

Boundaries help protect our mental health and well-being. They allow us to build trust, safety, and respect in all areas of life. Establishing healthy boundaries can help prevent burnout and exhaustion by prioritising your needs and time.

When you set clear expectations for yourself and acknowledge your limits, this will enhance your self-esteem. You are respecting yourself (and showing others how to respect you) by valuing your time and energy.

Believe in Yourself and your “Why”:

A big secret to self care, is believing in yourself and why you embarked on this journey to begin with. If you believe you have gifts to offer the world, and you are committed to sharing them, you will be unstoppable.

People have an enormous capacity to make things happen if only they maintained belief in themselves and their goals. A combination of self-doubt, giving up too early, and not pushing hard enough prevents most people from ever reaching their potential.

Be bold and ask for what you want or for the help to get you closer to what you want. You won’t always get it, and often the rejection will be painful, but there is always a lesson, a connection, or even a redirection.

If you don’t ask, the answer is already no. So what do you have to lose?

Statistically, the people who commit ‘to keep going until this works, and no matter what the challenges are I’m going to figure them out’ often do go on to succeed. They are consistent and persistent. And when you do this for long enough, there’s a greater chance for luck to go their way.

Internal Drive and your “Why”:

Most successful people are internally driven. They have goals and dreams that fuel them and they feel compelled to make something happen in the world.

The desire to make a difference and enact change in the world is a only force that will continue to drive you to higher levels of performance.

This is why personal motivation (aka your why) is so important. It’s also the first thing you need to figure out as you undertake any goal. Write it down so you can revisit it often.

Your why will be the reason you continue on when the going gets tough or the road just seems too hard. It is a challenge to be successful at anything you aren’t obsessed with. And it’s even harder to stick with something if you aren’t all in on it.

Knowing your why is a powerful driver for success. The importance of protecting your goals and striving toward your mission, cannot be overstated.

In the whirlwind of pageant prep, where poise and presentation take center stage, by taking care of you, and remembering your why, you will become unstoppable.

It’s time to prioritize yourself, invest in your well-being, and embark on a journey of self-love that will undoubtedly enhance your pageant experience and beyond.

Remember, self-care is an ongoing process, and finding a balance that works for you is key. Listen to your emotions, be kind to yourself, and prioritize *you* throughout this journey.

If you’re feeling brave, leave a comment below with your why. I’d love to cheer you on and help you stay accountable.

I'd love to hear your thoughts!
