Tips for Managing Stress:

Time Management:

Every pageant girl knows, preparing for a competition is time consuming! Your schedule will be packed. It’s easy to become anxious when you have a full list of things to accomplish both at school/work and in your personal life. There are only so many hours in the day, right?

But, time management is a strategy that will help. So what is it? It’s planning your free time and specifying the amount of time you have left in your day for specific tasks. Things like practicing interview questions, working on your talent, or even walking and turns practice.

Creating a realistic and organized schedule will help you manage your time effectively and be more efficient. You’ll know exactly what you need to do and how much time you have available to complete it.

You’ll spend less time deciding what to work on or procrastinating, and more time getting down to important work. Time management can help you avoid unnecessary distractions.

Prioritizing your tasks and giving yourself enough time to accomplish them will also help reduce your stress levels. If you’re able to schedule tasks based on your energy level, this can boost your productivity.

And as you manage your time properly and successfully meet each deadline, you’ll feel a sense of accomplishment and confidence boost. Consistently sticking with a busy schedule, and working toward your goals is also a huge motivator.  You’ll find you’re able to take on new opportunities and grow even more as you prepare to step on stage.

Pro Tip: Don’t forget to schedule time for relaxation and reflection on your progress. That’s all part of the process too and brings me to the next strategy….

Stress Relieving Activities:

If you’re trying to reduce stress during your pageant prep, be sure to incorporate stress-relief activities into your routine. These can also be great distractions from worry. Some suggestions:

Get active: Physical activity, in nearly any form, can act as a stress reliever. Even if you’re not an athlete, exercise is a great way to decrease stress.

Moving your body, even doing something low impact like yoga or walking, can release feel-good endorphins and other brain chemicals that boost feelings of well-being.

Solo ideas: You could consider solo activities to help decrease stress levels. Things like deep breathing, meditation, sewing or pottery.

Working with your hands is a great way to quiet a racing mind. When you are focused on creating something tangible, you can get lost in the process and this helps lower stress levels.

Journaling can be another healthy way to cope with stress and life’s challenges. Expressive writing helps clarify your thoughts and regulate emotions. Even if you just spend 10 minutes a day, journaling can facilitate self-reflection, personal growth, and problem-solving.

If you’re up for it, and your budget allows, a massage, pedicure or even a spa day can also be restorative and help you feel stress-free and rejuvenated. If that isn’t in the budget, consider some aromatherapy. Either using a diffuser or pouring some into a hot bubble bath. Calming scents and the moments of relaxation will help lower stress levels.

The key here is to do any activity that gives your body a chance to relax and unwind. You want to give your mind a chance to disengage from feeling like you’re ‘on high alert’ all the time. This can also help reduce anxiety levels.

Choose The Right Support System:

The people you surround yourself with can have a huge impact on your pageant preparation. You want to surround yourself with a supportive network of friends and family so you feel amazing when you take the stage.

Choose people who understand the demands of pageant prep. Those who can be a trusted confidant, a shoulder to lean on, or an ear to listen when you need it.

You also need someone in your support system that will continue to encourage you and who will help keep you accountable. It’s easier to stay on track with your pageant prep goals when you’ve got people checking in with you and cheering you on.

Ditch the Haters and the Naysayers:

There will always be negative people who will try to drag you down. Or those who don’t see how you goals and dreams are possible. But what they are really saying, is that they don’t see it happening for them.

Don’t be afraid to set a healthy boundary and spend less time with these people. Pageant preparation is hard enough without outside negativity. Prioritize taking care of you and surround yourself with those who will celebrate you, every step of the way.

It’s time to transform stress into strength and pressure into poise as you stride confidently toward your pageant dreams.

Whether it’s nerve-wracking moments leading up to the stage or the intricate balance of personal and pageant commitments, you now have some great actionable tips and insights that will help you manage it all.
